The Order of Merit that never came

On 18 October 1965 the embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Canberra argues that Ganz should receive the Order of Merit: as editor of Motor-Kritik he "took a keen interest in the development of a German Volkswagen and, together with other engineers like Professor Porsche, has greatly contributed to realizing this project". On 24 November and 1 December 1965 the Australian authorities refuse, citing their rules on foreign decorations. The file does not show that the award was ever offered to Ganz.
