Josef Ganz 1935–1950

Switzerland

Ganz settles in Switzerland in the summer of 1935. With the support of the federal authorities he develops a Swiss Volkswagen: three prototypes in 1937, a six-day test drive in 1938, a contract with Rapid for a pre-series. The war stops everything; Ganz is caught between the Gestapo, the Swiss aliens police and officials who claim the project for themselves. After 1945 he fights lengthy court battles and leaves Switzerland in 1950.
